Lupita Nyong'o's Odyssey Tour: A Fashion Extravaganza
The Odyssey Tour has been a fashion extravaganza, with Lupita Nyong'o leading the way in stunning and commanding red carpet looks. As one of the stars of Christopher Nolan's epic film, Nyong'o has been working with her longtime stylist, Micaela Erlanger, to create looks that encapsulate strength, structure, and an inherent sensuality.
In a recent interview, Nyong'o revealed that she was drawn to the project because of the opportunity to play dual roles, Helen of Troy and her sister, Clytemnestra. She also highlighted the importance of working with Nolan and the film's costume designer, Ellen Mirojnick, on the visual identity of her characters.
Erlanger, who has styled Nyong'o for over 12 years, described her client as a true sartorial chameleon, unafraid of color, volume, or dramatic texture. She noted that Nyong'o's approach to fashion is similar to her acting roles, making the styling process feel like a genuine, boundary-pushing artistic collaboration.
The duo has pulled off many winning moments, including Nyong'o's feathered Lapointe suiting for a press day in New York and her glimmering Armani Privé beaded gown for the photo call in Paris. Erlanger explained that the goal was to deliver modern sartorialism with a subtle, elevated tribute to the film's roots, nodding to the original text without being too overt.
One of the most memorable looks from the tour was Nyong'o's metallic Collins gown by Nicholas Oakwell Couture, inspired by Joan Collins' commanding presence in Esther and the King. The dress featured a stunning metallic gold lace, sculpted over a built-in, lace-up corset, and flowed out into an elongated silhouette. Nyong'o paired the gown with pearl and sapphire jewelry from Sabyasachi, adding a touch of artisanal craftsmanship and Old Hollywood glamour.
Erlanger and Nyong'o also opted to stay away from method dressing, focusing instead on capturing the essence of the film's characters. They played with Grecian draping, modernizing it with a high-fashion, subtle nod to the original text. Nyong'o's custom Olympia Le-Tan book clutch, a re-creation of Homer's The Odyssey, was another fitting touch.
As the press tour continues, Nyong'o is already booked and busy with future projects, keeping her on the move in surprising and vibrant directions.
